"Thyrsis
and Milla"
Thomas Morley (1557?-1602)
“Thomas Morley is best known for his canzonets and madrigals and for
his Latin and Anglican church music. The First Booke of Ayres
(1600) was his only lute song collection, and many of the
accompaniments suggest intabulation from consort songs, the
exception being Thyrsis and Milla, whose virtuosic
lute part is oddly reminiscent of a Dowland fantasia.” --Lynda
