Nicholas McGegan is known internationally for performances that match authority with enthusiasm, and scholarly responsibility with evangelical exuberance. In addition to 25 years as Music Director of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, he has been a pioneer in the process of exporting historically informed practice to conventional symphonic forces, guest-conducting leading North American orchestras including Chicago, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles, and renowned international orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the Sydney Symphony. As an opera conductor he has appeared at Covent Garden, San Francisco Opera, Scottish Opera, the Edinburgh Festival, Washington National Opera, Santa Fe Opera and the International Handel Festival, Gottingen where he has been Artistic Director since 1991. |
